C. Wallace (Wally), August 1, 1921–June, 2007,
Marion, November 29, 1924–September 14, 2007
Wally and Marion were active in the “Little White Church.” When the new church on Harold Avenue opened in 1959, Wally and Marion helped organize the move to the new site. They also made a substantial contribution to the sound system that made radio broadcasts of worship services possible.

February 5, 1924–December 5, 2010
George was a director of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, a director of the Richfield Bank and Trust Company, and twenty-year member of the Worker’s Reinsurance Association. He belonged to the Disabled American Veterans, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Masons, the Shriners, and was a long-time golfing member of Golden Valley Country Club. In 1975 he played in the Westchester Classic Golf Tournament Pro-Am with Gibby Gilbert.

Cindy was the daughter of Richard and Nadine Gunn. She was born in 1960 and had two brothers, Brad and Steve, and a sister, Julie. The family began attending Golden Valley United Methodist Church around 1969 when she was a third grader. She was confirmed there and later graduated from Wayzata High School.

Robert was born in Minneapolis and had four brothers and one sister. He attended Patrick Henry High School where he became a star athlete. He was a Hall of Fame member in football and basketball from 1942 to 1944.

Susannah Josephine Hoag
September 10, 1920–April 12, 1996
Susannah Josephine Curtis, sixth child of George H. and Susannah Copeland Curtis, was born in London, England, on September 10, 1920. She was educated in London and was awarded top scholarship honors, which led to her choice to attend the Neucomen School for Girls in London, preparing for service in the royal household.
Robert Cameron Hoag was the second child born to the Humboldt County, Iowa, farm family of Roland and Helen Mather Hoag, arriving on December 14, 1922. He graduated from Bradgate High School, Bradgate, Iowa, in 1941.

Dick was a successful business man, community leader, husband, father, and grandfather. His thoughts and talents led to the betterment of the community. He was known to say, ”When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

February 23, 1924–July 7, 2010
Marian grew up in Duluth, Minnesota, and later moved to Minneapolis in 1948 after she married Lawrence Robert. They were married for 52 years. She raised five children and later had seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Marian’s time with her family was a focal point for her entire life. Her support and encouragement never stopped.

Common sense hospitality defined my mother’s outlook on life. Her granddaughter Susan once wrote about that distinctive quality of hers noting it as an attribute of Christian love. My mother loved the music of the church. She sang in church choirs throughout her life. She was particularly fond of the organ and the great classical composers.

LaVon was born on Mother’s Day in Fairfax, Minnesota. She was a graduate of Hamline/Asbury School of Nursing. She received her RN License in 1957. Her first job was at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital. She married Gordon Funck in 1958, and they moved to Minneapolis and continued her nursing career in hospitals and a nursing home. She is the mother of six children and grandmother to nine. She was a foster mother to forty seven children.

Kim Alan grew up in St Paul with two brothers and a sister. He spent many summers during his high school and college years working with youth at YMCA Camp Icaghowan in Amery, Wisconsin. Kim Alan graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in political science and earned an advanced degree at Fuller Theological Seminary in California.

Lorys (Clark) Kimpton
March 3, 1920–January 28, 2009
James and Lorys moved to Golden Valley in 1950 and shortly joined the “little white” Golden Valley Methodist Church. Their daughter Janice actually attended kindergarten in the basement of the church. Lorys and Marilyn Klouda taught Sunday school for many years and when old enough, Janice joined them. Marilyn as well as Marge Noren remained good friends.

They were born in the Superior Wisconsin area where they lived their entire married life. They were devoted parents to Joanne (Karra) Barber and Susan (Karra) Holley, devoted grandparents and great grandparents of five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Ed was a wonderful family man. He was a devoted father who put the needs of his children and grand-children ahead of his own. His long marriage to Bobbi was filled with laughter and love. His three brothers were good friends all of his life. Although he lived in many places his heart was always in Texas.

Dee was the youngest of five children raised on a farm in southwest Minnesota. She spent most of her life in Minneapolis and graduated from Metropolitan State University in 1992. She was in management for Redline Health Care for over 20 years.

June 23, 1924–March 9, 2010
Dean was well liked and had an engaging smile. He was proud of his four daughters and seven grandchildren. Dean and Ruby joined Golden Valley Methodist Church in 1962. He received a degree in business at the University of Iowa where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He worked in sales for several farm machinery companies.

Arnold J. Anderson

Emily E. Anderson
December 8, 1901–May 17, 1992
Arnold and Emily moved to Golden Valley in 1944. They immediately joined the little white church on Golden Valley Road, where Emily became the pianist and organist, and Arnold soon took the job as treasurer. Both of these positions took on the appearance of lifetime appointments; however, Emily did relinquish her post to her daughter Charlotte in 1954. Arnold sang tenor in the choir for many years.

Alvin and Sophie Ducommun were the parents of Vicky Jo (Ducommun Gries) who, along with her husband, Gerry Gries, have been members of Spirit of Hope for 44 years. Vicky’s par-ents enjoyed attending SOH with them and especially enjoyed the music.
